How to Respond to Yelp Reviews
How public replies work on Yelp, and why the etiquette differs slightly from Google.
Yelp lets business owners reply publicly to reviews, similar to Google, but its community and review-filtering behavior mean the etiquette is a bit different.
Steps
- Log into Yelp for Business and open the review you want to respond to.
- For positive reviews, thank the reviewer specifically rather than with a generic reply.
- For negative reviews, stay calm and factual — Yelp's community tends to scrutinize combative owner replies.
- Offer to resolve the issue privately through Yelp's messaging rather than debating details publicly.
- Avoid asking reviewers to change or remove reviews in your public reply — handle that privately, if at all.
