What Is Ad Rank?
The score that decides your ad's position, based on your bid and Quality Score together.
What it means
Ad Rank is the number Google Ads calculates for every auction to decide where your ad appears — or whether it appears at all. It combines your bid amount with your Quality Score, plus the expected impact of ad extensions and formats.
Why it matters
Because Ad Rank blends bid and quality, outbidding a competitor is not the only way to beat them — a lower bid with a better-matched ad and landing page can still win a higher position. Chasing position with bid increases alone can waste budget if quality is the real problem.
ask datanephew
Am I losing top positions to bid or to quality?
Ask datanephew to break down your impression share losses — it can tell you whether you're losing spots because of budget, rank, or both.
Would raising my bid actually help here?
Ask datanephew to check the keyword's Quality Score first — if it's low, a bid increase alone may not move your position much.
