glossary term
Conversion rate
The share of visitors who complete the action you actually care about.
What it means
Conversion rate is conversions divided by sessions (or visitors) — the percentage of visits that ended in whatever you have defined as success: a purchase, a form fill, a call.
Why it matters
Traffic growth means nothing on its own if conversion rate falls at the same rate. It's the number that connects your marketing activity to actual business results.
ask datanephew
Is my conversion rate normal for my industry?
Tell datanephew what your business does and what counts as a conversion for you, and it can help you judge the number in that context rather than against an unrelated benchmark.
Which channel converts best for me?
Ask datanephew to break conversion rate down by channel or campaign — that is usually more useful than looking at the site-wide average.
