Average View Duration (AVD)

Average view duration is the total watch time for a video divided by the number of views — it tells you, on average, how far into a video people actually get before leaving.

A video can have great CTR and still lose people fast if the intro drags or the payoff is unclear — AVD is what separates a video people click into from a video people actually watch.

Is my average view duration good for a video this length?

Ask datanephew to compare AVD as a percentage of the video's total length — a 10-minute video with a 3-minute AVD tells a very different story than a 1-minute video with the same number.

Which of my videos loses people the fastest?

Ask "which videos have the lowest average view duration?" so you know where to look first for a pacing or hook problem.
