YouTube Impressions
How many times your video thumbnail was shown to viewers on YouTube.
What it means
An impression is counted whenever your video thumbnail appears on a YouTube surface — the homepage, search results, or the suggested videos sidebar — whether or not anyone clicks it.
Why it matters
Impressions on their own do not tell you much, since a thumbnail can be shown thousands of times and still get ignored. What matters is what happens next: how many of those impressions turn into a click.
ask datanephew
Are my impressions actually good, or just a big number?
Ask datanephew to show impressions alongside click-through rate for the same videos — a high impression count with a low click rate usually points to a thumbnail or title problem, not a reach problem.
Which of my videos gets shown the most?
Ask "which videos have the most impressions this month?" and datanephew will pull that straight from your channel data.
