Bing Places vs. Google Business Profile

How the two platforms compare in reach, effort, and why most businesses need both.

What it means

Google Business Profile and Bing Places do the same basic job — a free local listing that powers a search engine's results and maps — but for different ecosystems. Google Business Profile covers Google Search and Maps, while Bing Places covers Bing, Bing Maps, Yahoo, Windows Search, Edge, and Copilot.

Why it matters

Because Google handles the large majority of search volume for most businesses, it's tempting to skip Bing Places entirely — but Microsoft's ecosystem, especially Copilot, still reaches a meaningful slice of customers, and setting up Bing Places is low effort, particularly since it can import directly from an existing Google listing.

ask datanephew

Can datanephew compare performance across both listings?

Not directly yet — both are on datanephew's roadmap for full listing management. Datanephew today can already show you Bing's search performance through the Bing Webmaster connector alongside your Google Search Console data.

Do I really need both if Google dominates my traffic?

Setting up Bing Places is quick, especially by importing from Google, so it's usually worth doing even if it stays a secondary source.
