Diagnose a search traffic drop
Work out whether a drop in search visits is rankings, algorithm, or something on your page.
A drop in search traffic can come from a ranking loss, a Google algorithm update, a seasonal dip, or a technical problem on your site. Claude can check several of these at once instead of you opening four different tools.
Steps
- Ask "why did my search traffic drop last month?" with the date range you are comparing.
- Claude checks Search Console for ranking and impression changes on your top pages over that window.
- It cross-references against Analytics to see if the drop is search-specific or hitting every channel.
- It checks PageSpeed Insights and crawl status for anything newly broken on the affected pages.
- Ask for the pages most affected, ranked by lost traffic, so you know where to start.
ask datanephew
Can it tell the difference between an algorithm update and my own mistake?
It can point to what changed and when — a sitewide dip that lines up with a known Google update reads differently than a drop isolated to pages you edited recently.
What if the drop is really small — is it worth asking about?
Ask anyway. datanephew can tell you whether a dip is inside normal week-to-week variation or an actual trend worth acting on.
