Zero-Click Search & AI Overviews

A zero-click search is one where the searcher gets their answer directly on the results page — from a featured snippet, a knowledge panel, or an AI-generated overview — and never clicks through to a website at all. AI Overviews in particular have made this far more common, since they summarize information pulled from multiple sites into a single answer at the top of the page.

A page can rank well and get counted as an "impression" without ever getting a click, which can make traffic look flat or declining even while visibility technically holds steady. It changes what "success" in search even looks like for a lot of common questions.

My impressions are steady but clicks are dropping — could this be why?
