Clicks vs. Impressions vs. CTR
Impressions count appearances in search, clicks count visits, and CTR is the percentage that converts one into the other.
What it means
Impressions are how often your page appeared in search results; clicks are how often someone actually clicked through to your site from those results; click-through rate (CTR) is clicks divided by impressions, showing what share of appearances turned into a visit. All three come from the same underlying search performance data in Search Console.
Why it matters
These three numbers tell different parts of the same story, and reading only one can mislead you. High impressions with low CTR often means your title or description isn't compelling, while low impressions with high CTR often means you're not showing up for enough relevant searches in the first place — and those two problems have completely different fixes.
ask datanephew
Is my problem that people aren't finding me, or that they're not clicking?
Ask datanephew to break down impressions, clicks, and CTR together for your top pages — that combination usually makes clear which side of the problem you're actually facing.
What's a good click-through rate for my pages?
Ask datanephew to show your CTR trend and compare it against your own history — CTR varies a lot by position and query type, so your own baseline is more useful than a generic benchmark.
