How to Read Instagram Insights

Making sense of the numbers behind Instagram's Insights tab without digging through every screen.

Instagram's Insights tab splits data across content, accounts reached, accounts engaged, and total followers, which can mean a lot of tapping around to answer one simple question. Claude can pull it together in plain language instead.

Steps

  1. Ask "how did my account do last month?" and Claude will summarize reach, engagement, and follower change together.
  2. Ask about a specific post to get its reach, impressions, likes, comments, saves, and shares in one answer.
  3. Ask which of your recent posts performed best, and by which measure — reach, engagement rate, or saves.
  4. Ask how your Reels are doing compared to your feed posts over the same period.
  5. Ask for a comparison between two months to see if a change in your posting actually moved the numbers.

Do I need to open the Instagram app to check my numbers?

Not for most questions — datanephew reads your account and post-level data directly and can answer in plain language what would otherwise take several taps across tabs.

Can it tell me why a post underperformed, not just that it did?

It can point to which number moved — low reach, weak engagement rate, few saves — which usually narrows down the likely cause, even though it can't read viewer intent directly.
