Instagram Engagement Rate
How much interaction a post gets — likes, comments, saves, shares — relative to its reach or follower count.
What it means
Engagement rate is usually calculated as total engagements (likes, comments, saves, shares) divided by either reach or follower count, expressed as a percentage. There is no single official formula, so the number can shift depending on which one is used.
Why it matters
Follower count alone tells you very little — an account with fewer, more engaged followers often gets better results than a much larger account whose followers rarely interact. Engagement rate is a better read on whether your audience actually cares.
ask datanephew
Is my engagement rate good?
Ask datanephew to show your engagement rate trend over time rather than comparing it to a generic industry number — what matters most is whether it's improving relative to your own past posts.
Which posts got the most engagement relative to their reach?
Ask datanephew to rank your recent posts by engagement rate, not just raw like count, so you can see what content actually resonates.
