Saves & Shares (Why They Matter More Than Likes)

Saves and shares are stronger signals of real value than a like, and Instagram's algorithm treats them that way.

What it means

A save means someone bookmarked your post to find again later. A share means they sent it to someone else or reposted it to their Story. Both take more effort than a like, and both are widely believed to carry more weight in what Instagram recommends.

Why it matters

A post with modest likes but a high save or share count is often more valuable than one with the reverse — it means people found it useful or worth passing on, not just quick to tap through.

ask datanephew

Are my posts actually being saved and shared, or just liked?

Ask datanephew to break down engagement by type for your recent posts — saves and shares alongside likes and comments — so you can see which posts are earning the stronger signals.

Which of my posts get saved the most?

Ask "which posts have the most saves this month?" and datanephew will pull that from your Instagram data.
