Microsoft Account Holds, Suspensions & Editorial Appeals

Microsoft's version of account holds and ad appeals uses its own terms, but the same basic shape as Google's.

What it means

On Microsoft Advertising, a declined recurring payment or an overdue invoice puts the account "on hold" — no campaigns run until it's resolved. A full account suspension is usually tied to violating Microsoft's advertising policies, its services agreement, or misusing platform features, and (under the EU's Digital Services Act) can be appealed up to six months after the status change. Separately, every ad component goes through an editorial review (most completed within 48 hours), and if you believe a disapproval was wrong, you can request an exception — Microsoft's equivalent of Google's "appeal."

Why it matters

If you run ads on both platforms, it helps to know the two use different words for similar ideas: Microsoft says "on hold" for a billing-related stop and "request an exception" instead of "appeal" for a disapproved ad — otherwise the underlying situations are quite similar to Google's.

My Microsoft account says it's "on hold" — is that the same as a suspension?

A hold is specifically billing-related — usually a declined recurring payment or an overdue invoice. Ask datanephew to check your Microsoft account status, though resolving a hold means addressing the payment method directly with Microsoft.
