3-Second Video Views

The lowest bar for a Facebook video view — just three seconds of playback.

What it means

A 3-second video view counts as soon as someone watches three seconds of your video, whether they meant to or scrolled past. It's the loosest video metric Facebook reports, and it's easy to rack up a large number without anyone really watching your content.

Why it matters

A big 3-second view count can look impressive but tell you almost nothing about whether people actually cared about the video. Pairing it with a stricter metric — like how many people watched further in — gives a much more honest read on whether the video is working.

ask datanephew

Is a high 3-second view count actually good news?

Ask datanephew to compare it to how far people watched into the video — if most views drop off right after three seconds, the raw count is overstating interest.

Which of my videos are actually holding attention?

Ask datanephew to look at your recent videos' watch-through behavior rather than just the view count, so you can see which ones people stuck with.
