Facebook Image & Video Specs

The image and video dimensions Facebook expects for feed posts, link previews, and Reels.

Getting your media sized correctly before you post avoids awkward cropping and keeps your content looking intentional rather than stretched or cut off.

Steps

  1. For a standard feed image post, use a 4:5 (portrait) or 1:1 (square) aspect ratio — these take up the most space in a mobile feed.
  2. For a link post (sharing a URL with a preview image), use a 1200×630 image, a 1.91:1 ratio, so Facebook doesn't crop it awkwardly.
  3. For Reels, shoot or export vertical video at a 9:16 ratio.
  4. Keep file sizes reasonable — very large files can slow load or get compressed harder by Facebook, softening image quality.
  5. Preview your post before publishing, since Facebook's crop behavior can differ slightly by placement (feed vs. Stories vs. Marketplace).

ask datanephew

Can datanephew check if my past posts used the right image sizes?

No — that's a pre-publish formatting question about the file you upload, and datanephew doesn't have visibility into your original media files or a publishing role on your Page.

Can it tell me which image formats performed best?

Ask datanephew to compare reach and engagement across your recent posts — it can surface performance patterns, though it can't tell you the underlying image dimensions since that's not part of Facebook's Page metrics.
