The Four Ad Policy Families

Google groups every ad rule into four buckets, and knowing which one applies changes how serious a flag actually is.

What it means

Google organizes every ad policy into four families: Prohibited content (things you simply can't advertise), Prohibited practices (things you can't do, like deceptive claims), Restricted content & features (allowed, but with limits on where or how), and Editorial & technical (quality and formatting standards). Enforcement uses a mix of automated systems and human review.

Why it matters

The family a flag falls into tells you how urgent it is. A restricted-content flag (like "Eligible (limited)") is often just a normal, expected state. A prohibited-practice flag is more serious and worth acting on quickly. An editorial/technical flag is usually the easiest and fastest to fix.

My ad got flagged — how serious is this?

Ask datanephew to pull up the exact policy topic cited on the ad. Knowing which of the four families it falls under tells you whether this needs urgent action or is just a normal restriction.
