Why a Performance Max Asset Isn't Serving
Performance Max tracks each image, headline, and video's status separately from the campaign as a whole.
Performance Max campaigns don't have one single approval status for the whole ad the way a standard search ad does. Instead, each individual asset — each headline, image, or video — has its own status, and the campaign serves using whichever combination of eligible assets it has available.
Steps
- Ask datanephew to check the status of your Performance Max asset group's individual assets, not just the campaign overall.
- Have it flag any assets that are paused, removed, or restricted, and explain the specific reason for each one.
- If a reason mentions a policy restriction, treat it the same as a limited or disapproved ad — either fix it or leave it if the restriction is expected (like a trademark or regulated-industry rule).
- Keep enough approved assets in each asset group so the campaign has real variety to work with.

Why does my Performance Max campaign seem to be serving fewer variations than I set up?
Ask datanephew to check the status of every asset in the asset group. One or two restricted or disapproved assets can quietly shrink the pool the campaign is actually using.
One of my images isn't showing up in the ads — why?
Ask datanephew to look up that specific asset's status and the reason attached to it, rather than assuming it's a general campaign problem.
