Bounce rate
The share of visits where someone leaves without any further interaction.
What it means
Bounce rate is the percentage of sessions where a visitor lands on a page and leaves without clicking anything else — no second page, no scroll event, no button. It's a single-page-visit rate, not a judgment on the page itself.
Why it matters
A high bounce rate isn't automatically bad — someone who lands on a phone-number page, calls you, and leaves counts as a bounce even though the page did its job. Bounce rate only means something next to the intent of the page.
ask datanephew
Is my bounce rate too high?
It depends on the page — a blog post with a 70% bounce rate might be fine, a checkout page with the same number is a problem. Ask datanephew which of your pages have bounce rates that look off for what the page is supposed to do, and it'll tell you.
Can datanephew tell me why people are bouncing?
Yes — it can cross-reference bounce rate against load time, traffic source, and device to help narrow down whether it's a speed problem, a mismatched ad, or something else.
