The Realtime Report

A live view of who is on your site right now, useful for checking a launch worked, not for trend analysis.

What it means

The Realtime report shows activity on your site in roughly the last 30 minutes — active users, which pages they're on, where they came from. It's built for checking that something is working right now, like a new campaign link or a just-published page, not for understanding longer-term patterns.

Why it matters

It's tempting to treat the realtime number as "how busy is my site," but a 30-minute window is too small and too volatile to mean much on its own. Business owners who watch it too closely tend to draw conclusions from noise — a quiet realtime report at 2am doesn't tell you anything you didn't already expect.

ask datanephew

Is my new page actually getting traffic right now?

Ask datanephew to check current activity — it's a good quick check right after publishing something or launching a campaign.

Should I use this to judge whether traffic is trending up or down?

Not really — ask datanephew for a proper trend over days or weeks instead, since a 30-minute snapshot is too noisy to draw conclusions from.
