What it means
A session groups together everything a visitor does in one sitting — the pages they view, the links they click, the time they spend — starting when they arrive and ending after 30 minutes without activity or at midnight, whichever comes first.
Why it matters
Sessions are the basic unit almost every other metric divides by: pages per session, conversion rate per session, bounce rate per session. Getting comfortable with what counts as one session makes the rest of your reports easier to trust.
