What Are GA4 Explorations?

GA4's free-form report builder for custom breakdowns that don't fit the standard reports.

Explorations are GA4's advanced reporting tool — a blank canvas where you pick your own metrics, dimensions, and visualization type instead of using the pre-built reports. They're powerful, but the interface assumes you already know which dimensions and metrics pair well together, which is exactly the part most business owners find intimidating.

Steps

  1. Open Explore in GA4 and pick a blank exploration or a template close to what you need.
  2. Drag the dimensions you want to break your data down by (like landing page or device) into the rows.
  3. Drag the metrics you want to measure (like sessions or key events) into the values section.
  4. Apply any date range or segment filters to narrow the view.
  5. Save the exploration if it's something you'll want to check again later.

Do I need to learn how to build an exploration myself?

No — describe the custom breakdown you want in plain language, and datanephew builds the equivalent report for you without you touching the Explore interface.

Can datanephew save a custom report so I can check it again later?

Ask datanephew about your options for saving or repeating a specific report — for a recurring check, a scheduled summary may fit better than rebuilding it each time.
